Description
The new node Normal Generation (AI) is the next step in democratizing material creation in ArtEngine as it allows for higher quality outputs of normals from a single photo. Normal Gen AI uses a neural network model to generate higher quality normal maps compared to shape from shading techniques. It was trained on high quality scans of Asphalt, Brick, Concrete, Gravel, Ground, Plaster, Rock, Sand, Stone, Tile, & Wood.
It’s smart enough to maneuver through an image and add further depth and definition to your Normal map. It gets phone images as close to photogrammetry results as possible, so you can capture your desired textures out and about on your phone and generate a higher quality Normal map than you can currently get with standard normal generation.Â
The node can be used in combination with Height Generation and Albedo Generation with height checked to create the additional maps of Height and Albedo. Furthermore, adding the AO generation and Roughness Generation nodes in ArtEngine will create a complete PBR material.
The node will take a few moments to execute the first time but afterwards the tweaking of the sliders becomes almost instant.

Usage
Bring in the texture image.
Add Normal Gen (AI) Node and connect to your texture.
Execute the node
Edit properties for desired result.
Edit the Intensity parameter in the node to change the Normal Map result.
